Could ‘True Detective’ season 2 air in the summer? It’s possible
At the moment, we at least know that there will be a “True Detective” season 2 … and save for some rumored castings (Taylor Kitsch, Elisabeth Moss, Colin Farrell, and Vince Vaughn) and a setting in California, there is not a whole lot else known right now.
Given that production has not started yet, there is also a reason to discuss another topic: When the show is even going to premiere. At this point, the show returning in January seems to be almost impossible. It’s much too close to the horizon, and turning the show around that quickly would probably kill showrunner Nic Pizzolatto.
However, a summer premiere is far more likely. The True Detective Rumors site strongly points out that the former “True Blood” timeslot would be great for the series, and we can concur with that for a number of reasons.
- Ratings – The show was a bit hit by the time season 1 ended, and it would be even larger this time now that people know what to expect from it.
- Filling a need – What else does HBO have right now that is ready to go in this spot?
- A prime showcase – There is competition in the summer, but not so much to scare you off from this time.
- Time – Most importantly, Pizzolatto and company will not feel rushed to make a great product.
The only real downside we can think of is that it basically rules all of the cast ineligible for the 2015 Emmys. They would instead not get to try their luck at winning until 2016 thanks to timeline rules.
What do you think: Could a second season of “True Detective” air at some point this coming summer? Share in the comments.
