‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Things get cagey in latest promo

“American Horror Story: Freak Show” has unveiled yet another new teaser, and this one does just about as much as most of the others when it comes to giving you a sense of what is coming up, but not really anything else.

In the video below (first posted by Entertainment Weekly), you can see what can basically be described as one of the creepiest things with a cage that we have seen since Miley Cyrus did that music video in one. It’s somewhat shocking, but not exactly what we would call “terrifying.”

In the end, we really don’t see “American Horror Story” as “Horror” so much as we just see it as just plain gruesome at times … but maybe that is because the definition of “horror” may have been skewed to mean something that is going to get you jumping out of your chair at all times. There’s nothing really about this show that makes you want to scream at the top of your lungs, and it doesn’t go for the deliberate shock value. Then again, that also may be why the show is pretty good; it doesn’t go for the cheap thrill.

We just hope that this new season surpasses the past two, and gets us a little bit closer to the greatness of the first one. So far, the statements from Jessica Lange and others leave us reasonably optimistic. The plan is for this to at least be more scary and less silly than “Coven,” and the period setting (the 1950s) gets it somewhat close to what we had in “Asylum” two years ago.
