‘Under the Dome’ season 2, episode 9 review: Will Julia give up the egg for Barbie?
Last week on “Under the Dome” Barbie risked everything to tell Julia that it’s not safe outside of the dome. Is she going to follow Barbie, or will she let him try to work his magic out of the dome?
Big Jim is trying to push Julia into offering up information about Barbie being alive, but she won’t budge. When he goes to Junior and tells him that he knows Barbie’s alive (which Junior confirms) he then asks how Barbie got out from under the dome. Junior shows him the cliff and Big Jim feels that it’s his calling to help everyone escape. When Junior tells him Barbie’s message to Julia (not to leave the dome) and that people outside of the dome want the egg, Big Jim decides to track down the egg.
Barbie’s dad sends another email (a video email), saying that Barbie has been captured and that he needs the egg to trade for Barbie. Not knowing Barbie’s father is behind everything she is starting to buckle and is thinking about giving up the egg for him, but Melanie and Junior think it’s a mistake.
Barbie is being held captive by a security firm run by his father until he helps them get them the egg – the only thing valuable enough to trade for his release. His father gives his men authority to get information out of him anyway they can, but he is able to escape.
Pauline, Lyle and Sam are looking for a red door (from her last painting/postcard), thinking that it will be the gateway to get back to Chester’s Mill. They end up at Hunter’s place (they are friends with him) and Barbie shows up there too, and after seeing the red door picture, tells them that it’s the door to a cold cellar by his childhood home. They all go through the portal they find and have all have different visions (except for Hunter) all connecting them to each other before returning to Chester’s Mill. The only one we didn’t see come through is Lyle.
Big Jim decides to take things into his own hands and starts communicating with the men at the edge of the dome, telling them that he’ll get them the egg in exchange for letting everyone out from under the dome. When they say no to that, he asks for him and Junior to be released and they agree. When they tell him that the egg is at Angie’s house, Big Jim realizes that Junior knew where it was all this time and lied about it. So who ended up with the egg? Junior actually had the egg hidden in the bomb shelter he held Angie in during the first season.
We loved this episode, and it was all because of Big Jim. We have been hoping that Big Jim was going to get a big story and finally he’s got something going on. It was great to see him have a purpose, even though we don’t ever really know what his intentions are when it comes to the egg. With Pauline back in town, we expect even more changes for Big Jim… will we see a softer side? Episode grade: B+
