‘Ray Donovan’ season 2, episode 7 preview: Conor and a birthday speech
We feel for Conor right now on “Ray Donovan,” and for a variety of different reasons. Let’s start off here, first and foremost, with the simple fact that he is a member of one of the most-chaotic families in existence. The Donovan clan never seems to be getting along, and it is made so much worse by the simple fact that they also happen to be violent criminals most of the time.
So for Conor to demand that everyone was there for his birthday celebration was surprising enough, and then for it to see at first perfectly okay was jaw-dropping. Both Ray and Mickey each gave a sentimental speech, which was nice from the standpoint that they actually care about family. We imagine that this is somewhat genuine, though they also care almost as much at times about their work … and themselves.
However, things start to go a little bit off the rails the moment that Mickey decides that he wants to give his grandson the keys to his own car, even though the guy is only 14 years old. Why in the world would you decide to do that? It’s certainly a good question, but one that probably has some strings attached to it. Remember here that Mickey Donovan is quite the schemer, and is not going to do anything without thinking ahead to whatever the consequences of this move could end up being.
If you want a greater sense of what the ultimate aftermath to this choice could be, just be sure to come back tomorrow night after this episode wraps up.
