‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5 trailer: The end draws near (with violence)

HBO has unveiled their first complete trailer for “Boardwalk Empire” season 5, and there is one thing that we can say right now with complete assurance: There are some pretty hard times ahead for Nucky Thompson and the rest of the characters.

First of all, we’re looking at a brand-new era of sorts here in 1931. We’re no longer in the age of the Roarin’ Twenties, and Nucky has to look at the harsh reality before him now: His business, which was once tied to Prohibition, can be no more. The only silver lining is that he now has a chance to be on the up-and-up with doing things above-board … if anyone really has the money for it, that is. The Great Depression will decimate many, and even though this season is shorter than the four that came before it, there is plenty of action and possibly even death ahead.

When it comes to Nucky, our largest question is simply whether or not he makes it through this series alive. Many other antihero characters as of late, including (“Breaking Bad” spoiler alert!) Walter White, have met a pretty grisly end as a result to their actions. Nucky figured out the way to be a gangster, but there are consequences for nearly every action.

Since we know there are those who will be curious, the song in the trailer is “Tranquilize” by The Killers off of their album “Sawdust,” which features a special guest appearance from the late rock star Lou Reed. Like the show, it’s worthy to check out in full.
