‘Under the Dome, season 2, episode 6 review: Will Barbie learn the truth about Sam?

Under the DomeHave you been waiting for “Under the Dome” to pick up steam this season? So have we. Last season this show was a thrill ride that had us anxiously waiting for new episodes, however this season feels more like a scatter-shot of stories that really haven’t found their footing. Will tonight’s episode change all of that?

Junior, Sam and Barbie go into the tunnel at the back of Melanie’s locker to see where it leads when an explosive goes off and there’s a cave in. Junior makes it back to the school, but Sam and Barbie are stuck underground. Barbie tries to question Sam about Melanie, Junior, Lyle and his connection to everything and at first it doesn’t get him anywhere, but eventually Sam opens up about what happened the night they found the mini dome (or at least his version of the story) which involves Lyle being the one that was responsible for killing Melanie and Sam’s incredible guilt over leaving her body in the forest.

As these two start to bond, Barbie sees the scratches from Angie on Sam and asks him where he got them from. Sam admits that he killed Angie and reveals that the journal told him that the four hands have to die for the dome to come down. He can’t live with what he’s done and hands the journal to Barbie and kills himself right before Julia finds a way to get him out of the blocked tunnel.

Melanie is a replacement for Angie’s hand as she helps Junior, Sam and Norrie find the mini egg that Julia threw into the lake (Norrie and Sam are dating again, saying their “I love you’s”). When they get the mini dome out of the lake and touch it, they see what looks like an obelisk, something from Melanie’s home town.

Also this week there’s a sand storm going on under the dome that could stop the flow of oxygen. Every week seems to be another weather related problem and it’s not really enough to make us worry about the people of Chester’s Mill. The show really needs to map out a stronger story line if it wants to save this season, especially for Big Jim. Episode grade: D+
