‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: Now featuring … Vince Vaughn?
How about this for a possible name on “True Detective” that you never saw coming?
According to a new report from TVLine, former “Swingers” / “Wedding Crashers” star Vince Vaughn is in talks to be one of the three lead characters on the drama, which has already attracted buzzworthy names like Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch to its rumor mill. There are supposedly four primary parts on the new season, and this would leave one open if these roles end up being confirmed.
As for whether or not we like Vaughn on an HBO drama series, we’re going to go ahead and give creator Nic Pizzolatto the benefit of the doubt if this really ends up happening. Vince can act! He doesn’t always get a lot of opportunities to show it, but there are times when he can give pretty engrossing performances. The challenge here is more ensuring that you get him in the right part, and find a way to control that manic energy. One easy way to look at this is that there would have been a time many months ago when we would have rolled our eyes at the notion of Matthew McConaughey on a show like this, feeling like he is nothing more than the silly romantic-comedy dude with his shirt off much of the time. Now, he’s the favorite to win Best Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys later this month.
We’re probably going to see the new season of “True Detective” at some point in 2015, though if we were to bet on it right now, we’d lean towards summer. It doesn’t feel like there is enough time to film and prepare the show for a January premiere, especially when you think about the holidays and the fact that nobody has been officially cast.
What do you think about this idea … at least in theory? Let us know with a comment
