‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Family Guy’ cross over: Watch lengthy trailer now!
One of the most welcome surprises for many at San Diego Comic-Con this year was an opportunity to see more than just a few-second clip of the much-hyped crossover coming up between “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”; we actually managed to get a glimpse at a lengthy trailer.
You can see the full video via Entertainment Weekly, with one of the biggest rewards from it being a chance to see Homer with Peter Griffin and Stewie with Bart Simpson, two of the pairings that we have long hoped to see. There is also a surprising “Bob’s Burgers” cameo thrown in here for good measure.
Now, it is time that we come around and ask what is the truly hard question: Is this actually any good? We’re a little bit torn on that for a number of different reasons. We do believe that there are some very funny moments in here, and when it comes to jokes, it doesn’t disappoint. We never questioned that the team for either show would struggle when it comes to giving these characters some funny one-liners.
What we are more concerned about here is strictly the issue of story. How thin is it going to be? This trailer almost makes the special, which technically counts as a “Family Guy” episode, feel incredibly disjointed like an episode of “Saturday Night Live.” There’s not a lot of story behind it other than the Griffin family arriving at Springfield, and then making an in-joke about how “The Simpsons” never wants to reveal just what state the show is technically set in.
So for now, we’ll remain cautiously optimistic about this. The chances are good that this could be a very funny event, but we’re also equally aware of the chances that this could turn into a disaster.
