‘The Following’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Reset’ mindset, Joe Carroll mysteries, and more
“The Following” season 3 will air on Fox next year, but based on everything that we heard about the show from San Diego Comic-Con, there are still many mysteries for it to still figure out.
First of all, who loves an alternate ending? At one point, Joe Carroll was not even going to be a part of any future story, There was one scene filmed for the season 2 finale where he was killed rather than hauled away into prison. The fact that this ending was shot reflects that the show is moving forward with a story that may not even feature James Purefoy at all. Just take a look at what executive producer Kevin Williamson had to say at Comic-Con:
“We have a brand new story whether Joe is alive or dead. We don’t know how he’ll appear in season 3. We always saw it as a reset.”
The new story will feature Kevin Bacon’s Ryan Hardy seemingly starting off things in a good place, and with a new love interest in tow. This should feel familiar in a way, given that there have been times in the past when he has also started things off feeling pretty good about the direction of his character. From here on out, though, he has to watch out for things starting to become truly crazy. There will be new villains, and some of the same trademark twists and turns that you have come to expect from this franchise over the years.
