‘Under the Dome’ season 2, episode 4 review: Angie’s killer revealed, virus threatens town
Last week on “Under the Dome” we saw things taking an ugly turn as Rebecca revealed to Big Jim that there’s not enough provisions to take care of the whole town and that they may have to “thin the herd”. Is this really the only option?
Big Jim doesn’t want to jump right to the “thinning the herd” option and looks into alternatives, but Rebecca decides to take the blood from an infected pig as a ‘just in case” procedure. She will put the virus into the water to bring the population down. When Big Jim finds out at first he’s horrified, but when she tells him that there’s only 7 days left of food for everyone, he starts listening. What neither of them know is that the virus is stronger then either of them realize and it will kill everyone. When Rebecca learns the truth about the virus mutated, she changes her mind and she and Big Jim get brought to jail.
The Melanie Cross mystery gets interesting as they find old newspapers revealing that she went missing in the 80’s, but more then that, she was originally from the same town that Barbie was from.
Back in the 80’s: Lyle, Sam, Pauline and Melanie came out to where the mini dome was and they found a meteor. When they touched the meteor, it cracked open and revealed a small egg that Melanie took to protect. When someone pushed her, she knocked her head and dies right beside the mini dome.
When Barbie digs up the spot where Melanie showed them, they find the meteor and her necklace, but not her bones. Since Sam was the one to find her washed up on the shore, Barbie thinks Sam is hiding something about the past.
Junior learns more about his mother, that Lyle kept in contact with her after she faked her death. Lyle thinks that his mother wrote about Angie’s murder in her diary and uses that as a way to get Junior to let him out of jail. Once he’s out of jail, he knocks Junior out and takes off.
Junior thinks Lyle killed Angie, but really it was Sam – who has gotten incredibly close to Julia… close enough that he tries to kiss her (and fails miserably).
When “Under the Dome” first came out we were glued to our TV sets every week, however season 2 has really struggled to keep our attention. It feels that a lot of this material has already been played out in season 1 and they need to find something new to focus in on at this point. Episode grade: C
