‘True Blood’ season 7, episode 5 reaction: Nathan Parsons on James – Lafayette moment

Sunday night’s “True Blood” episode was really all about the inevitable, given that it marked the first time that we have seen James and Lafayette be together romantically after plenty of buildup on the subject. This comes at the expense of Jessica, but given that she and Jason Stackhouse hooked up not a whole lot later in the episode, we have a feeling in the end here that she may not be that upset about it.

What drew James and Lafayette together in the end was in part the way that she was treating him in the first place. Nathan Parsons, who took over for the role after Luke Grimes left, tells The Hollywood Reporter a little about what attracts these two characters, who have a connection that stems largely from their personalities:

“I think they’re kind of of similar minds. James is a flower child himself. He’s a hippie, he’s free love. The trick with James is, though he’s a pacifist, he’s still a vampire, which is not a peaceful thing to be. This inner conflict that he always has is externalized with Jessica, when she’s getting upset with him. He’s just trying to be the right person for Jess, and she keeps blowing him off. Lafayette’s the only one who has the interest and takes the time to say, “What’s wrong, what’s going on with you?” There’s a mutual connection where they both just want to have fun and be easy, love each other, take care of each other.”

Parsons suggests that there will be more conflicts that come up for him and Lafayette before the season is over, but one thing that you can certainly not expect is a whole lot more drama between James and Jessica. Now that she is mixed up with Jason again, that story may be just about over.
