‘Halt and Catch Fire’ episode 9 preview: First look at ‘Up Helly Aa’

The tradition for the “Halt and Catch Fire” producers to continue giving their episodes strange titles continue. As for last night’s “The 214s,” we can only still really associate that with it being the most-common area code for the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

Meanwhile, we’re looking now next week at an hour entitled “Up Helly Aa.” What in the world is that? We admittedly had to research it, but it’s the name for a variety of festivals that are held as a part of Scottish culture. Um … okay. What does that have to do with a group of ragtag programmers trying to sell a new computer to the masses? The only thing that we can possibly thing of for the time being is that we are looking at a serious metaphor situation here. There’s really nothing else that we can think of without seeing the episode itself.

You saw at the end of “The 214s” that Joe, Cameron, Donna, and Gordon were all heading off to COMDEX together to try to make this dream a reality, but of course there are going to be many more roadblocks when there is a criminal investigation all around them and major rivals like IBM. The synopsis below is further news of that:
