‘True Blood’ season 7, episode 5 review: Does Bill have Hep-V; did Jason and Jessica kiss?

There are many things that surprise us about “True Blood,” but having much of tonight’s episode “Lost Cause” be set at a big party at Sookie’s house was something we never saw coming.

In an effort to push her to move forward, Lafayette and Alcide’s father threw the bash and basically invited everyone in the town. It was nice to see the fallen (at least Alcide and Tara in the case) actually have some sort of tribute after a few episodes wondering if they would ever get anything. It only took a matter of time before things started to go crazy, and Tara’s mom tried to stab Willa to get closer to her daughter again.

Relationships – One of the nicest moments in here came when Andy not only completely forgave Jessica, but ensured that she was finally able to move forward for a change to. In going into the party, she took her first step in the right direction. He want a ring in order to propose to Holly, and this began a fun little sideplot where Sookie gave him a ring.

Also, this was the episode that finally featured Lafayette and James getting a little intimate, which is not so good news for Jess. But, come on: We all saw this one coming. Speaking of things we saw coming, Jason and Jessica kissed! You know that Violet is not going to be happy with this. Interestingly, though, she chose to hold to the information rather than surprising anyone.

Eric’s quest – While all of this was going on, Eric Northman continued his own quest to take down arch-rival Sarah Newlin, and recruited the help of her vampire sister in the process. Isn’t it a little convenient that this was just brought up? Probably, but there were some good moments that came out of it.

Finally, Eric tracked her down to Texas, where Sarah was trying to convince her mom that she had converted to Buddhism, and had turned things around. It’s too bad for her that the Yakuza is after her. Such a random enemy, and one we don’t completely understand.

This episode tonight was at times really great, but there are still problems with the show that keep it from making a whole lot of sense. It’s too bad, since we want it to go out with as much of a flurry as possible. Grade: B-.
