‘Mistresses’ season 2, episode 7 review: Savi and Dominic hit a roadblock
Last week on “Mistresses” Dominic saw Savi sneaking around with Zach right after he bought her a “let’s have a baby” gift and for the first time all season we are finally invested in a story line. So did it live up to expectations this week?
Savi: She will never be happy will she? After the accident and choosing Dominic we expected her to immerse herself into her relationship with him… even more so when Toni started sniffing around her man. Instead she’s been sneaking around behind his back with the man that crashed into her car, getting tattoos, going to concerts and lying to Dominic about it all. Now that Dominic found out the truth (on his own and not through Savi who instead lied to him when he confronted her) it seems that all baby plans he had are out the window.
When Dominic finally hears the story about Zach he’s still not convinced that this guy is all that he says he is (also he’s not trusting Savi all that much at this point), and suggests that they all go out together. As expected the lunch with Zach blows up after Dominic gets him to admit that he has romantic feelings for Savi. Dominic tells Savy that they are on a break until she figures out why she did why she did what she did with Zach.
April: She is suspicious that Daniel isn’t being honest with her and she pushes him to take her to Vermont for the weekend and much to her surprise he says yes, until a “problem” arises and he can’t go. She calls him out and he admits that he’s married (finally someone’s a mistress on this show again!!!!) He gives her a sincere apology and tells her how much he loves her, and after thinking about things she goes back to Daniel and it seems that she’s entering into mistress territory.
Karen: After running into Jacob, she invites him over for dinner and he accepts, telling her that he wasn’t honest with her when he said that he didn’t have feelings for her. After kissing her he freaks out and bails on dinner to take care of his “other dating situation”. Even though she was unsure if he was really going to break up with his other girl, he did and it looks like Karen might have a shot at real happiness… or will she? Once she discovers that the other woman is her client (the escort) she realizes that things just got complicated.
Joss: As more problems arise out of the weird relationship she is developing with Scott (mostly that his patients keep sending him inappropriate pictures), she leans on Harry even more. Why oh why must he be moving to Australia? The show is going to be missing something very special if this is really where the story is going and the Joss/Harry comrade is gone. When one of Scott’s patients dies during recovery from a nose job, Joss realizes just how self absorbed she’s been in the relationship, but instead of staying to help him through his crisis, she takes off while he’s in the shower. Later Joss apologizes to Scott and he tells her that not only is he in love with her, but that he wants her to move in with him… and she says yes.
We’ve been waiting all season for things to pick up with this show and this week’s episode reminded us of just why we love “Mistresses” so much. It gives us layers upon layers of gossipy goodness and finally it seems to have found it’s rhythm. The only thing we are still a little disappointed about is how the situation with Savi’s baby just seemed swept under the rug, and only pops up here and there, but overall the season is improving. Episode Grade: B
