‘True Detective’ season 2 spoilers: The structure of the new season
We feel almost bad in a way for Nic Pizzolatto for the way scrutiny was leveled on him before scripts for the upcoming second season of “True Detective” were even turned in. There was so much pressure to make the main character or characters either a woman or someone different than Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson that it must not have been helpful on the creative process.
Our feeling was always the same: So long as the right people for the job were hired, it’s hard to have any real reason to complain. We won’t know who those people are until some of the scripts really start to come in and we see what the story is. While we have not looked at the pages of these yet, The Wrap at least got enough of a glimpse of one to report (via Twitter) that the new season has basically a single male lead, and then two supporting characters who are male and female.
As we said, this is great information to have, but also completely unimportant to anything right now. All we know is that Pizzolatto said recently that he and a select few are the only people who know the actors they want on the show moving forward, and they are being very coy about it. After all of the bad rumors out there about Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, and so many more, we would much prefer sitting around and waiting to hear officially who the actors will be rather than speculate further. We’re sure that they will be reasonably familiar, but not cast strictly because they are famous. The show doesn’t need that to get people watching.
We will have some further updates on this subject as the news starts to come out. For now, share some of your thoughts on this below.
