‘Sherlock’ season 4 finally confirmed; includes 2015 Christmas special, three new installments
You’ve likely known that this was coming for a little while now, but why not rejoice it finally being official? The BBC has confirmed to the delight of “Sherlock” fans everywhere that there will be a fourth season of the show.
At the moment, though, details are still pouring in and it will be a long time before the story or even a list of possible guest stars are announced. What we know is that there will be a Christmas Special for the end of next year, which will most-likely be filmed in January. Following that, three additional episodes will be shout for 2016. There is no confirmed date on those, but we’d certainly love it if they debuted at around the same time that season 3 did.
The BBC released a statement celebrating the news today, and of course was rather gleeful in stating the following:
“We’re ready to unleash the most shocking and surprising series of #Sherlock yet. The only thing is to expect is the unexpected…”
Meanwhile, we also had the following from executive producer Steven Moffat as he was also thrilled to be bringing more of the sleuth to the screen:
“A special, plus a new series of three episodes — it’s a record-breaking run!! Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…”
There was never a doubt that fans and the BBC wanted “Sherlock” back. The only real subject up for debate had been the issue of whether or not the likes of Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch could figure out a way to do it, given that the two are busy working on all sorts of things these days. The former recently appeared in “Fargo” for FX, while the latter has a series of feature films lined up. This news was hinted at recently by Freeman, though, and that gave us some sort of indication ahead of time that it would be happening.
