‘True Blood’ season 7 premiere review: Who (possibly) died?

True Blood -True Blood” wasted literally zero time at all when it comes to blowing the doors off of this new season, literally deciding to make it seem like multiple characters were just about killed off in the opening minutes.

Who were these unlucky few? Think along the lines of Arlene and Holly, who were all taken by the H-Vamps in their attack on Bon Temps. What we learned through this, though, is that these creatures are not entirely just zombies a la in “The Walking Dead.” They do have nesting grounds, and they also have some sort of bizarre organization to them. There also happen to be a myriad of strategies when it comes to how to deal with them. Of course, these three were still alive, and were shown to just be captured later in the episode.

What about Tara? She was believed to be straight-out dead, and everyone blamed Sookie for it even as she was pleaded to help the two in the closing minutes. We have a hard time accepting that she is really gone, and we probably won’t for a while.

As for some other stories…

Sookie and Alcide – These two were off in relationship-land most of the episode before Sookie at the church, as they had to come to terms with Sookie reading her boyfriend’s thoughts, and confirming her suspicions that everyone in the town does see her as a pariah.

Pam – Pam is off trying to find Eric, though this is proving already to not be a particularly easy mission for her.

Jessica – This was an elaborate standoff between her and an infected vampire at Adilyn and Sheriff Andy’s house, where he proclaimed that he wanted to taste a fairy’s blood before he died. Eventually, Adilyn did let her in and forced her into the attic, where she can hide for a while from danger.

In the end, we were honestly let down a little by the premiere. There was no real movement forward with Pam, we don’t know a whole lot more than we did at the start of the episode, and if Tara is really gone, that is a pretty depressing way to say goodbye to an original character. Grade: C+.
