‘Orphan Black’ season 3 not announced yet; why?

Tonight, BBC America’s “Orphan Black” is going to come to what is hopefully a thrilling conclusion, but there is one thing that is going to bum us out while watching it: The fact that for some reason, there is still no confirmation in regards to whether or not there will be a third season for the show.

To us, this is in many ways surprising. This show has drawn two Critics Choice TV Awards already for Tatiana Maslany, and she may finally get the Emmy nomination she deserves this year. This is one of the highest-quality dramas on TV, and it gives a certain amount of credence to the claims that you really do not need to be some sort of standard genre to blow people away these days.

Also, there is the issue of ratings. Despite not having “Doctor Who” as a lead-in this year, new episodes of “Orphan Black” have drawn at least 100,000 more viewers or more per episode through every one this season. As a matter of fact, the total viewer count for last week’s penultimate episode was double that of the ninth episode last year. This also is one of the most time-shifted series out there, given that many young viewers who check this show out are not there to watch it live.

With all of this being said, we understand that this is an ambitious show and ambitious things always cost money; but, they have managed to make it work on a budget already. We feel like so long as there is more story left to tell (and there certainly is), the show should return. It may take a little while for current non-viewers to discover how great this is, but they will come if you are patient enough.
