‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5 spoilers: Expect a significant leap forward

For most of “Boardwalk Empire,” the show has been about Prohibition and also the Roarin’ Twenties. However, all of that is going to change as the series on HBO prepares to say goodbye.

Speaking in a press junket about his new movie “The Purge: Anarchy” (per Den of Geek), actor Michael K. Williams made it clear that the show is going to jump ahead a full seven years all the way to 1931.

The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now … The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone.”

This is certainly a significant change for the show, but also a very interesting one. The days of us seeing the likes of Nucky Thompson ruling could be over, or at least could be changed dramatically. What is interesting about this move is that in shifting the time period so greatly, there are potentially many big events in history (especially for the Capone family) that the show is going to end up missing out on. Obviously, they are okay with doing that, but it will be interesting to learn just how they intend of covering all of this in the final episodes.

There is no firm premiere date for the show, but we expect it to start at some point in September. We would also not be shocked to see it paired with “The Newsroom,” which is also in its final season.

What do you think about this news, and do you think this will be a good change for “Boardwalk Empire” in the end? Share some of your thoughts with a comment.
