‘Community’ season 6: When contracts for Joel McHale, Alison Brie, cast expire

The latest -If Hulu is going to make a decision regarding the future of “Community,” it looks more and more like they are going to have to act fairly quickly. Otherwise, they run the risk of losing this delightful slice of television for good.

Per the Daily Mars and the Monte Carlo TV Festival, contracts for Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, and the rest of the cast will expire by the end of June. This means that if Hulu wants to prove that they are serious in getting this show back on for another season, they will need to act fairly quickly to extend the contracts. Otherwise, the actors are free to commit to other things during the production months, and that would make doing another season extremely difficult. These are not actors who are going to remain without jobs for an extended period of time.

Earlier this week, Dan Harmon said that he was “pessimistic” at the moment about the show’s future, mostly because there are so many different things that Hulu will need to do. First, they would need to sign on the cast, and then book Harmon and his fellow executive producer Chris McKenna (who he wants in order to continue on the show). There are cost considerations that go along with this, and while Hulu is clearly a “Community”-loving service, they are also a business first and foremost. They have to find a way to turn this into a smart business decision more so than just doing something for the love of fans that are out there.

We are going to have further updates regarding the future of “Community” in the future, so be on the lookout for those! Also, sign up now if you are interested in getting further good stuff from us via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
