‘Community’ season 6: Dan Harmon confirms talks, is ‘pessimistic’ over future
The latest update on the future of “Community” has arrived, but we regret to inform you that this is basically the same as every other updates related to the show’s future as of late. While there are still talks that are ongoing with Hulu about a sixth season, they are far enough apart that it makes it fairly unlikely that the “six seasons and a movie” prophecy will come to pass.
Dan Harmon was recently in attendance at the massive Banff World Media Festival (which can also be known as a great place to look at snow in the summer), and he told the Calgary Herald while there that the cast signing on as well as himself and Chris McKenna are all hurdles in the show being able to have any more life left in it:
“What I can’t say and what I’m pretty cynical about, just because I think it’s better to be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised, is that they could make anything happen … It’s a big cast full of talented people with a lot of options. And when all that is done, you’d have to make a deal with me and I wouldn’t want to do it without (writer producer Chris) McKenna.”
The good news for the time being is that you do not have much conversation out there about the cast wanting to do other things yet, and no one has signed on for another full-time job that would impede on this. However, you have for sure lost John Oliver and probably Jonathan Banks already, and they are big contributors on the guest cast. You have to ultimately convince Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi, and Yvette Nicole Brown to have a shot. There have already been some original cast members who have departed, and it would be difficult to continue losing people.
Our personal feeling is that if it helped to make it happen, a shortened sixth season of 8-10 episodes would be ideal, especially with an option for there to be a “Community” movie a year or two down the road so that everyone could come back refreshed.
Alas, these are all pipe dreams for now. We suggest that you share some of your own wants for the future of the series below, and visit this link to get further updates courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter.
