‘Britain’s Got Talent’ 2015: Why David Walliams has to be back
As of right now, we’re not going to entertain the rumors anymore that David Walliams may or may not be back for another season of “Britain’s Got Talent,” mostly because some of them seem to be maddening. If you believe the British press right now, David is leaving, Simon is quitting, the entire panel is being shaken up, Simon is staying put, and Simon hates David. The tabloids flip-flop to the point where they could almost be politicians.
So what we are going to focus on instead today is something slightly different: Why David has to be back if the series wants to continue being the same sort of silly circus that we have come to know and love over time. There are many reasons for this, and they include some of the following:
- David’s appreciation for the cheesy camp acts that would otherwise be lost in the shuffle. Where would we be without his love for the Showbears or Christian Spridon?
- His dance moves. This should go without saying.
- The one-sided bromance with Simon Cowell, which has led to probably a few of our favorite moments of the entire series. (Look up on YouTube a certain “Britain’s Got More Talent” conversation about Simon’s house.)
- His rapport with Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden. His silliness at times allows them to open up more and be even funnier. You want to have this sort of chemistry, and you don’t know if that is going to happen with a new panel.
- Overall, him just being the sort of comic who is funny, yet still relatable.
The new season will not start filming until next year, and we’re sure that there are going to be plenty more rumors that continue to pile up until that times comes. We know that there were some bumps in the road in regard to ratings, but they weren’t that significant and we attribute that mostly to ratings fatigue. Anytime you have a show on for such a long time, viewers are eventually going to drift on. We’ve seen this happen throughout America with “American Idol” and “The Voice’ on an even larger scale.
