MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4, episode 9 review: Eva’s ‘Personal Statement’ is an awful one
Tuesday’s “Awkward” episode clearly set out to do one thing, and that was to get us to hate Eva with a fiery passion. This is a character who has no problem being evil, and she showed that with one simple move with a set of underwear.
So is Eva leaving her undies in Jenna’s bed a game-changer? Maybe, since it does completely change her opinion of Matty, at least provided that she actually believes the he did something like this. Luckily, she didn’t, and understood that this was just another one of her games. the problem? This is a game that still could have pretty huge implications of its own depending on what happens from here.
We’re not going to lie when it comes to say that this story to us is a little “ugh,” given that these sort of high-school situations are so routine and easily telegraphed. Eventually you know that this is going to frustrate Luke, who may feel like that this is Jenna showing her hand when it comes to her feelings about Matty.
As for the rest of the episode, Jenna and Tamara coming up with a “personal statement” of their future was interesting and also a nice bit of nostalgia from our own time in school. Meanwhile, Sadie getting schooled by Lissa and Jake was just plan fun. We’re glad to have the return of Jake as a single guy, but wish that it was a little more of the episode. The rest was just far too routine for our taste and not exactly shocking, given the previews gave most of it away. Grade: C+.
