‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: The conflict ahead for Lana Parrilla’s Regina

Regina -Understandably, the biggest discussion point that came out of the “Once Upon a Time” finale for many was the reveal of Elsa from “Frozen” being a part of this world. Can you really blame the media for that? It was a completely surprise that had been hidden from even many of the show’s cast members.

What is ultimately just as interesting a story for us, though, is what is going to come next with Regina. Lana Parrilla’s character had finally reached some sort of understanding with Emma, only to find out now that this woman is responsible for destroying her romance with Robin Hood. Unknowingly, she brought Maid Marian into the present, and while she didn’t know that, the emotional / Evil Queen part of Regina’s brain is obviously going to want to seek out vengeance.

So how can you describe the present state of emotions for Lana Parrilla’s character? Since show co-creator Edward Kitsis does a pretty good job explaining this in a new interview with E! News, we’ll leave it to him:

“We have built 66 episodes of growth for Regina and this is a very big setback,” Kitsis revealed. “The question we want the audience to think about is, ‘How does she handle it?’ It is a very uncomfortable situation for everyone involved, it’s very complicated. She’s done a lot of growing and yet we know what her weaknesses are.”

We cannot see this being something Regina will ignore right away … at all. Maybe over time she will be okay with it, but we have to wait and see what shakes out with Robin Hood himself. Just because he reacted a certain way to seeing Marian does not necessarily mean that he wants to be with her forever. People change over time.
