‘White Collar’ season 6: Waiting for filming to begin
June is going to be a big month for fans of USA’s “White Collar.” While you may still be waiting for a little while in order for the new season to premiere, at least you can boast now that filming is going to be underway.
There have been some conflicting dates online as to when filming is going to start, and we’ve heard everything from June 4 to June 6. The important thing to note is that regardless of when the date is, the series should be back at work by this point next week. Willie Garson has already said on Twitter that he is prepared to arrive back on location, and now that Matt Bomer has done his promotional tour for “The Normal Heart,” he will be prepared to dive back into work. He has certainly brought back the Neal Caffrey look in order to make it happen.
Production, in case you missed our earlier story from Bomer’s time on “Ellen,” is going to go for the next few months, but should be done well before the start of fall. After all, there are only six episodes in this final season, and Bomer is also shooting the sequel to “Magic Mike” in the autumn with Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, and the rest of the gang.
The thing that you may have to wait the longest for here is the official premiere date. Regardless of when it is, we imagine that USA is going to do their best to give the show a proper send-off. Just look at the effort that they put into “Psych” and “Burn Notice,” which each also lasted for six-plus seasons before coming to a close.

Always excited for more White Collar. 6 episodes is not enough! I just hope the ending is fitting for the 5 great years that they have given us.

“Regardless of when it is, we imagine that USA is going to do their best to give the show a proper send-off.”
I wouldn’t be so sure… USA didn’t treat White Collar especially well during negotiations regarding renewal. It took forever and rumors are that the renewal only came through because FOX offered to shoulder the costs. Furthermore they have been delayed in filming due to various reasons. Usually they’d be ready to film already a month ago.
Also… Whenever fans have tried asking USA Network or communicating in general regarding the ending, the decent closure and proper send off, we’ve been ignored completely. Many fans as well as the WhiteCollarClosure-account on Twitter got blocked by USA Executives – even without having tagged the execs, tweeted them excessively or being rude.
Furthermore, there’s an official forum for White Collar and in previous seasons the members of the forums have gathered in New York during filming, had a visit to the set and were greeted by cast and crew. That yearly tradition has also been cut away this year.
Let’s see what happens, but I definitely don’t feel secure that it will be neither decent nor proper… The only thing that makes it all a bit bearable is that it appears to be Matt Bomer himself who sprung the idea on the ending of the show… He would be the one who knows Neal Caffrey the best, and I feel confident that at least HE will ensure that the ending will be fitting.

I was also rather stunned by the quoted statement from the article. USA hasn’t done anything to promote White Collar for a couple of years now. While other shows got marathons, or on-demand, or even an all night pajama party to usher in new seasons, White Collar got… nothing. Nada. Zip. And when a certain USA exec was asked on Twitter about a WC marathon before the back half of S4, his answer was no, that decade-old SVU re-runs would get better ratings. So, yeah, no confidence whatsoever that USA will do ANYTHING except show the new episodes.
And I like your point about Matt suggesting the ending, and that fact leading to some hope. The way Eastin treated his “tragic” character, Neal has never been allowed to have/keep anything good. So hopefully S6 won’t bring things full circle, because if it ends with Neal back in prison, I’m going to feel like I wasted 5+ years.

I agree with both of you about USA’s treatment of White Collar. It is still the most fun on TV – one of the few shows with action, suspense, intelligent humor and characters we care about without having to worry about bad language or gore. It has been one of USA’s most popular shows and I think that they are shooting themselves in the foot by changing their “sunny” programming. Some of us like those kinds of programs. I also agree that they have not given it a fair shake by constantly changing airing dates and times. USA gave their regular Tues. night summer slot to “Suits” this past year and White Collar had to compete against the new fall network shows when it aired. I also read that Matt came up with the idea to wind it up, so I am trusting him. He is sharp and has a great sense of humor so I hope it has a good ending, even thought whatever it is will break my heart. I, too, hope he doesn’t wind up in prison or off to do some huge heist that may land him in prison. I’d like to see him free and planning his future, but still mischievous.
