‘Masters of Sex’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Smash’ alum Christian Borle joins cast

Are you ready for some more masterful “Masters of Sex” news? If so, get prepared for the announcement that you are going to see Dr. William Masters’ brother on the show for the first time.

Showtime has confirmed that Christian Borle, best known for his role on NBC’s “Smash,” has signed on for the drama in a recurring role this summer as Frank Masters. In the context of the show, there is not too much else known about what his role will be. Obviously, you can get some information about this from the real life of Masters, but there have been occasional changes to the formula here and there over the first season.

Borle does join a pretty impressive cast for the show’s second season, which include Sarah Silverman and Betsy Brandt fresh off of the end of “The Michael J. Fox Show” (and not to mention “Breaking Bad”). One of the reasons why there is so much room for these new faces to show up is simply due to the evolution of the show. With Masters presumably moving forward to new horizons with his study, many of the characters from the first season are going to have a significantly reduced role. This means new people, new situations, and hopefully more progression in the attempts by Dr. Masters to have his work finally taken seriously by an audience of his peers.

“Masters of Sex,” thanks to a shift by Showtime to give a new drama the post-“Homeland” treatment, is going to be airing this summer. Therefore, we are going to have some more news on it sooner rather than later.
