Ratings: ‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 7 shatters another record
We’ve certainly come to expect some big ratings from “Game of Thrones” earlier this year, but ratings as big as we are getting now? That is something that is causing our jaw to hit the ground.
Sunday night’s new episode “Mockingbird” yet again shattered some records, and it ended up totaling a whopping 7.2 million viewers just when it comes to live viewing alone. When you remember that the people watching this show are paying exclusively for HBO and are still watching it live, that is extremely impressive. We had a hard time thinking that the series could ever come close to this, thanks mostly to the fact that there is so much piracy out there and it airs on a competitive Sunday night.
So how big could this show really get? While we don’t necessarily feel like the sky is the limit anymore, we could envision it hitting the 10 million figure by the time a series finale airs someday and you really get answers to everything that you’ve been hoping for. Heck, you may even get great ratings for the night that Dany finally gets to King’s Landing (if she ever makes it there at all, it is). It all will come down to HBO getting more subscribers, and then some of the people who are watching on DVR / On Demand / HBO GO actually tuning in live. This show’s numbers surge when you factor in its total viewership over the course of the week when you factor in all avenues. This is why the show is considered to be one of the biggest in the history of the network.
