‘American Idol XIII’ top 3 results: Did Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Alex Preston make finale?

The logo -Tonight, “American Idol XIII” took care of an inevitability: Saying goodbye to someone from their top three. Of course, they did so with a show that felt extremely bloated after only having 30-minute shows the past few weeks, and one that also made us roll our eyes on more than one occasion.

Of course, we had hometown visits! Let’s be honest: How many people here were there to actually support versus just getting on TV? This used to feel great when the show was an actual smash hit, and now these just feel forced and super-cheesy. The crowds are also much smaller than they used to be.

When it comes to the elimination, this is a pretty sad one: Alex Preston is gone from the competition despite having his best night of the competition. It’s a shame, since we had been hoping for an Alex – Jena finale for many weeks now. (Then again, the show reminded us a million times how sick Caleb was.) At least there was a good send-off for him in the form of a “Fairy Tales” reprise.

Now that Alex is gone, who should win between Jena and Caleb? This is going to be an interesting one to watch out for, but there is an easy reason to want to pull for Jena: She would be the first wild card winner in the show’s history. Also, she has taken a ton of chances all season long, and her overall body of work is pretty incredible. Still, it’s much too early to call a winner … especially when Caleb has never been in the bottom two and Jena has.
