‘Mad Men’ season 7, episode 5: Vincent Kartheiser on Pete, Bob Benson battle
What has become very interesting for “Mad Men” is that despite not having James Wolk around much thanks to him filming “The Crazy Ones” at the time the show was in production, they have still found a way to come up with an innovative use for the Bob Benson character. He still exists as a rival for Pete Campbell, even though you never quite see him on the show itself.
So what does the man behind the role have to say about all of this? Speaking on the subject to The Hollywood Reporter, Vincent Kartheiser does his best to explain a little bit of what it is like for him to continue to have a rivalry with someone, even though he has yet to actually act in any scenes with him so far this season:
“That storyline last year was fun and it was a fresh breath of air for us. It’s nice to kind of still have. I like that there’s this guy out there somewhere that Pete judges himself against and measures himself against and wants to destroy. That was Ken Cosgrove for the first four seasons.”
There is also another funny part of this interview, where Katheiser claims that there are many people out there who actually do believe that he has a receding hairline in real life beyond of the extensive work that the hair and makeup people do to give Pete his signature style.
We admit that at the moment, we are still jonesing for so much more Pete than what we have had an opportunity to see of him so far. He’s a great, at-times-smarmy character, and we’re personally rooting for him and Don Draper to end up working together at some point.
