‘American Idol XIII’ :Talking Jessica Meuse’s elimination, judges reportedly returning

Jessica -

Thanks in part to the May sweeps and other assorted craziness, we have not gotten around to addressing the big “American Idol XIII” elimination from last night, and while it may not be a particularly shocking one, it is still notable all the same.

So what is the lasting legacy of Jessica Meuse’s time on the show? It really all depends on how you choose to look at it. We know that there are going to be some out there who feel like she was mistreated by the judges, and put on a different curve than the others. You could also say that there is an unfair level of favoritism to Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene just for the two having these huge voices that can go all over the scale.

At the same time, though, it doesn’t really feel like she has anything to be upset about. It always felt like she was not going to win the competition, and that this was around the time that she would be leaving the show. She also was not her best in two of her three performances last night, though her take on Lady Gaga’s “You and I” was pretty phenomenal.

In the end, we personally would have liked to see Jessica last long at least than Caleb, mostly because we feel like his apology over his recent r-word controversy was barely an apology at all, and he did not fully grasp what the issue was. That’s the problem to us, sine we like to feel like there is room for growth and forgiveness after someone does something hurtful.

As for other news, we feel like the reports that Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban are all returning is good for the show. It may sound contradictory given what we just said about their treatment of Jessica, but aside from that and the show focusing on them too much during performances, this was a much-improved year for the judges. Change in this area is not always a good thing, since you have to rebuild chemistry.
