‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 2 gets more episodes, ‘The Mindy Project’ season 3 less
This is around the time of the year when upfront presentations happy, and with that in mind, you better prepare yourself for all sorts of jostling when it comes to episode counts.
The first thing to take note of here is that following its finale last night (which actually beat “New Girl” in the ratings), “The Mindy Project” has only received a 15-episode order for its third season. In explaining the reason for this, Fox head Kevin Reilly explained to Vulture that much of the reason for it is trying to match now what modern viewers want when it comes to episode counts:
“I think for a contemporary audience, less is more. I think it ends up becoming a really digestible amount where the end is always in sight.”
We do tend to agree with him that sometimes, less is in fact more, and we’d rather have 15 very good episodes that 22 that alternate between being really good and being somewhat forgettable.
It’s with that we are somewhat puzzled by the other news coming out now that “Sleepy Hollow” season 2 is being extended. Vulture also claims that this show could be at least 15 episodes long, and could run as long as 18. Maybe this will work out, but we were perfectly fine with the order of 13. The issue here is that your rules about episodes cannot be arbitrary, and you cannot give one show a smaller count and another one higher based on ratings. If that’s what you are doing, why not just admit that?
Anyhow, these are things that we will keep watch on going into some of the big upfronts moving forward. Let us know what you think about this news below.
