‘Glee’ season 5, episode 19 preview: Chris Colfer explains Kurt-focused story

Kurt -Tuesday night’s “Glee” episode “Old Dog, New Tricks” was written by Chris Colfer, and thanks to that, we suppose that there is a certain amount of appropriateness that comes from having his character of Kurt being the primary driving force behind it. We also don’t think that there is even any sort of narcissism behind this either on Colfer’s part; most of the stories since the characters moved to New York have been around other people, and until now, he has spent most of his time supporting them. This is his chance to jump into the spotlight with something that feels fairly realistic.

So in speaking to E! News about what is going to lie ahead, Colfer explained the overall push that leads to his character joining a senior citizen production of “Peter Pan”:

“The main storyline is about Kurt. He’s really one of the only ones left in the group who hasn’t really made a name for himself yet, and he’s feeling very down about that. So he’s looking for something to supply him with that validation … He finds it when he meets this woman named Maggie who lives at an assisted living home, and he ends up joining that assisted living home’s production of Peter Pan.”

This should in the end be a fun story to watch unfold, and we are thrilled to see what will happen with it in the long-term. Kurt is probably not going to directly find stardom with this, but it could be a stepping stone. After all, most people have to work much harder to find success than either Rachel or Blaine have so far.
