‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 20 review: Damon and Elena, rudely interrupted
On Thursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” there were surprises aplenty. Also, there were probably a few reasons to go berserk if you ship Caroline and Stefan. Are these two going to hook up or not? We almost hope that the relationship stays this way, mostly because the present dynamic is just so good.
For Damon and Elena, honesty (and a lack thereof) was one of the major stories. Nobody wanting to tell Damon about Enzo’s death was a huge thread that we watched play out, and he was furious at her for not knowing in advance what was going on. Stefan knew too, largely because he was the person who killed him. But, these two don’t have that same sort of romantic entanglement going on.
So Damon and Elena kissed … again. There wasn’t anything else that happened between the two of them, but let’s just say that those questions are still lingering. Before that, though, Elena may need a little bit of a rescue mission…
But outside of the good stuff that we saw in here between Enzo as a ghost and Stefan and Caroline, we cannot really say that this was an exciting episode at all. There wasn’t that much that happened, and there are too many characters who are off doing their own thing. The adventures of Tyler, Matt, Bonnie, and Jeremy are not tied closely enough to the main story, and it feels like we are at times watching separate shows. The Travelers just are not as a whole that interesting of characters, even if we do like Enzo. It’s just that coming after Klaus and Silas, expectations are higher, and are not being fully met here. This one was a letdown leading up to the final episodes. Grade: C-
