‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off: More on how it will be unrelated to comics
“The Walking Dead” is currently in the process of getting together its big spin-off show, but thanks to the sheer lack of information being released about it, there are all sorts of crazy and also not-so-crazy fan theories currently being formed. What’s one of them? The idea of the show potentially featuring characters from the upcoming issue #127 of the comics, largely because of the notion that there will be a new group of survivors potentially introduced there.
Robert Kirkman at least ruled out that whatever is happening in #127 is not going to be a part of the upcoming show at all. In the letters section of issue #125 (per ComicBook.com), he did his best to reassure any and all with the following message:
“For the TV spinoff, I’m coming up with that stuff. It’s unrelated to the comics. What’s happening in issue 127 is in no way connected to the spin-off TV show.”
Is this great news? For us, it is. While the franchise show does tell its own story, there are enough similarities between it and the source material that spoilers can inevitably happen. That will not be the case for the show. The only thing that will be known is what Kirkman’s sensibility is, and how that could lead to all sorts of chaos and destruction. Plus, if the spin-off performs poorly, we suppose that we can assume that the zombies just ate everyone there and they don’t matter anymore.
This spin-off will not premiere until 2015, so there is no reason to rush anything. We will be satisfied if there is no substantial news out there about the project until Comic-Con. After that, then we’ll start to be a little annoyed.
