NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 finale: Five things to expect from ‘Basic Sandwich’
Thursday night marks the send-off for “Community” season 5, and potentially the series itself with “Basic Sandwich.” Sadly, we’ve been in shoes like this before with the show. Even if viewers and some people at NBC like it, the ratings still aren’t great. The relative success of “About a Boy” and “Growing Up Fisher” complicate things further.
But, this article isn’t meant to be stuffed full of speculation on “Community’s” future. Instead, what we want to do now is get you excited about the finale! “Basic Sandwich” continues the Subway storyline that you saw last week, and hopes to answer the question as to whether or not Greendale will become the tool of a restaurant empire, or the same old dysfunctional community college moving forward.
Of course, we’re not going to spoil anything substantial in the episode, but here are at least five small teasers to have you more excited.
1. The show will continue to give you more insight on the Jeff / Britta relationship, and the claims that the two of them are going to get “married” in the midst of all the chaos around them.
2. All of the changes for the characters in the past year, including Pierce’s death and Troy’s departure, are addressed.
3. There are some great fourth-wall breaks (appropriate given Abed was named Fourth Wall in “G.I. Jeff”) regarding the show’s future.
4. Expect at least two tender / sweet moments where you will pull a Shirley / Annie and say “aw” at the screen.
5. You must watch the end tag multiple times. It may be our favorite of the entire season, and we can literally say nothing else about it.
We’ll be back after the show airs Thursday night with our full review, and hopefully not long after that there will be more news out there on “Community’s” future. For now, share your expectations for the episode below, and click here to get further TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
