Showtime releases first ‘Masters of Sex,’ ‘Ray Donovan’ season 2 teaser

This summer, Showtime is doubling up on the drama. While you may not have new episodes of “Dexter” to look forward to anymore (and you may also still be getting the bad taste of that finale out of your mouth), there are also two other series in “Masters of Sex” and “Ray Donovan” that you can still very much look forward to.

We’re not going to say that the first teaser released by the network below is particularly revealing when it comes to either show, but it is exciting nonetheless. Think of these clips more as an indicator of what sort of direction the shows are going to head in more so than a sequence of actual events worth looking forward to. For example, you know that “Masters of Sex” is going to give you something more on the Johnson / Masters relationship soon that leads to them being actually together. You also have an advantage to scooping this over Ray Donovan, given that you know a thing or two more about how Masters’ story ends in real life.

Is there some risk with this summer lineup? Definitely. For one, “Masters of Sex” only had nine months versus a year between seasons thanks to the move, and this shortened window did hurt “Dexter” in the summer. Also, these two shows are ones that depended on lead-ins from other programs last summer, and it is pretty obvious that with this move, Showtime wanted to do just about everything in its power to let “Homeland” lead into another new show so that they can find another prospective hit. It’s a smart strategy, but still a risky one.
