NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 video: A deeper look into ‘Basic Story’
Thursday’s night’s episode of “Community” was the first part of the season finale, and also a pretty silly episode about the grand takeover of Greendale Community College by Subway. There were times where we wondered if it was too esoteric, but the story at the center of it all was very entertaining: The Save Greendale Community was actually so good at their job that they were able to ensure that the board wanted to use the school for something better … or at least a sandwich shop.
In the new video below, you can see creator Dan Harmon share some more insight into this episode, including the inclusion of Subway, and how the board members different from most standard “Community” characters in that they are villains. Their motivations are very specific and different than the rest of the gang, and so far, you have to chalk them up as the winners.
Luckily, there is still a reason to believe that Greendale can be re-saved, and it may all come down to one thing: Like so many other people in the “Community” world that have a stake in the college, these people are inept. It shouldn’t take too much to completely outsmart them, and find a way to take over the college yet again for studies. They just have to find a way to “horrible” up Greendale again, which really shouldn’t be too hard. Just let Leonard and Starburns do their work and see what comes up the other side.
While “Basic Story” wasn’t our favorite episode of the season or even in our top 3, we still have confidence that it is setting up some great things moving forward to Thursday night.
