‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: A couple of hints on Felicity Smoak’s backstory

We all know that Felicity Smoak is one of the more likable characters on “Arrow” this season, but in a way, she’s also one of the biggest enigmas. Save for the fact that she worked for Queen Consolidated at the time she was brought deeper into Oliver Queen’s world, we know very little else about who she was before this, what her life was like, and where she came from.

In a way, that’s kind of cool from the “we love conspiracies” standpoint. Our favorite theory, as stated in a recent “Arrow” podcast, is that she is Ivo’s daughter … but there’s a good chance we’re wrong on that. We especially feel that way now after hearing what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say to TVLine:

“We actually will get a little bit more of Felicity’s backstory…, You get a couple of hints, and when you hear what some of the hints are, you’re going to look back and realize that we actually knew [what we were planning] back in Season 1.”

We wonder at what point in season 1 they knew what they were planning, given that Felicity originally wasn’t meant to be such a huge part of the show. This must’ve been a plan forged in the second half, when they realized fans loved her and wanted to make her a larger part of the story. But please, don’t just make her the daughter of a well-known character for the heck of it. We could totally see some shows out there suddenly deciding that she was another secret Malcolm Merlyn child, or that she’s actually Floyd Lawton’s daughter Zoe. Not everyone must be linked!

With that, we end our mini-rant, and proclaim that we’re excited to see what “Arrow” has in store for Felicity the rest of the season. We also hope that it includes at least a moment or two for Olicity shippers, even if it is not them getting together in any way.
