2014 ACM Awards: Watch Blake Shelton, Shakira from ‘The Voice’s’ new duet
There were many performances that took place during the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night, but one that likely stood out to many people watching was the one that featured a pair of artists who also double as coaches on “The Voice” in Shakira and Blake Shelton.
While on the stage together, the two parties performed “Medicine,” which is a duet they have on Shakira’s brand-new album. It’s definitely a sound that is a little different for the pop star, but then again, it is for Blake, as well. It’s like the two both went in halfway, and the sound ultimately that came out from it was something that was a little bit rock n’ roll, with some pop and country roots in there as well.
The performance itself was pretty straightforward, but you don’t go to the ACM Awards (or watch it on TV) in order to listen to people with auto-tune or elaborate dance numbers. It’s more about the band and the performance itself, and the two worked hard on getting their harmonies right and focusing on the story of the song. The truth here is that when you think of these two voices, harmony is not the first thing that probably comes to mind. But, the two of them find a way to make it work, and neither tries to one-up the other one with hitting bigger notes.
