‘The Blacklist’ season 1, episode 18 review: How do Liz, Tom Keen move forward?
For most of the past week, we’ve been waiting to see just what Liz Keen’s next move on “The Blacklist” was going to be when it comes to her husband. She may have known somewhere within her that this guy was off, but it was not until recently when she actually allowed herself to see the truth.
So rather than running, she organized a big vow renewal for her and her “husband” tonight for one simple reason: Getting Tom’s “brother” to re-enter the picture, just so that she could get some answers from him. While he was not extremely forthcoming, we did figure out some more about how these people retrieve information. Tom also has a real brother out there, just as we also know that there is also another woman in his life somewhere named Nikki. Maybe it’s a girlfriend, but that was not confirmed.
We still didn’t get as much from this story as we wanted, unless you count the most uncomfortable kissing scene ever. There are signs that Tom is starting to figure things out … but we’re not quite there yet.
As for the mystery of the week, it was slightly more detached than usual thanks to the simple fact that Liz and Reddington were barely a part of it. There were chilling moments and a tense standoff involved in it, but let’s not sit here and say that it was anywhere near as interesting as the other.
In the end, this was a solid episode, but hardly what we wanted after the explosive discovery last week. Now, we’re left waiting for a few episodes to find out more. Grade: B-.
