TV quick hits: ‘Sharknado 2’ poster, ‘Bates Motel’ season 2 scoop, ‘Helix’ renewed

This is in some ways a cable TV version of Quick Hits, with the biggest highlights being everything from movie posters to scoop on a very intense season of “Bates Motel.”

“Sharknado” poster – Since we know that you just cannot look away from “Sharknado 2,” take a look at the latest poster for the Syfy Original Movie that carries with it the subtitle of “The Second One.” This movie has a new premiere date of Wednesday, July 30 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, which is a somewhat odd given that this would seemingly do so much better to us on a Saturday when you can party while watching it.

To us, the best part of this poster is that it is literally the same shark graphic from the first poster (see comparison), just with a different background this time around. The amusement park rides of the Santa Monica Pier have been replaced with New York City, and the Statue of Liberty is not having a very good day at all. Also, the sequel doesn’t list any of the cast members on its poster, which suggest that maybe this time, the sharks are the stars.

Laugh all you want at these posters; you still know that you’re totally going to watch this.

“Bates Motel” preview – Want to get an advanced look at what Norman Bates is up against on Monday’s “Bates Motel”? Then take a look at the synopsis below (via SpoilerTV), which suggests that trust is going to be a pretty integral component of what lies ahead:

“Norman trusts Cody with a family secret. Dylan finds himself fighting for his life as Zane’s war escalates. Norma makes a deal with a mysterious man to help stop the bypass.”

“Helix” renewed – For those of you who frequently bemoan Syfy not keeping things without sharks or tornadoes around for sequels or extra seasons, know that “Helix” has been renewed. the next 13-episode season will begin production later this year.
