‘CSI’ season 14: Original cast member Paul Guilfoyle to exit after finale
Anytime that you have been a part of a series for 14 years, that is something that really has to be celebrated. It’s a great deal of commitment to a singular series, especially when there are so many other options out there and so many people who want to go on to do other things after their initial six-year contract is over.
However, Paul Guilfoyle on “CSI” has stayed put from the very beginning, and while there have been other actors who have been around the show in some capacity since the beginning, few of them have run the full gamut some sort of absence during the process. He and George Eads are the only two actors still on the show who came on it as a series regular from day one.
This decision was one made by the show’s producers, which makes us wonder whether or not there were some financial reasons given that contracts for actors tend to go up year-to-year. Speaking in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, show executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Don McGill had the following to say:
“Paul made Capt. Brass a standout character … He is not just an original cast member, he is an original. In a show about forensics, fans always looked forward to the handcuffs coming out, and Capt. Brass putting his spin on the crime of the week, just as Paul Guilfoyle put his indelible stamp on the character and the show. He will be missed.”
If we were a fan of the show, what we would be worried about slightly is whether or not the character really gets to have the farewell that he deserves after a long tenure. Guilfoyle only learned last week that he was being written out of the show, and Friday was the last day of production for season 14.
