‘The Originals’ spoilers: Bosses talk Claire Holt’s exit, possible return

Meet the cast -

On Saturday, the cast of “The Originals” descended on Los Angeles for a lively discussion at PaleyFest, and for those of you who wanted answers on a number of key topics, you were likely very happy to have them from here.

In case you were not in California and unable to catch the live stream, we have at least a few highlights from the panel for you below.

1. Julie Plec said, first of all, that they long expected the series to air after “The Vampire Diaries” at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on Thursday night.

2. For the first time, Claire Holt opened up about her exit on the show, and shooting some of her final scenes on the series (which aired a couple of weeks ago): “It was really profound for me, because it went back to what the show was … the three of us and our family … It really felt special for me, because she got what she always wanted.”

Holt said that the decision to leave was not career-based so much as it was life-based for her to return home and spend time with people that she cares about … and is very much interested in returning at some point. This arc was also what she and the writers had discussed for some time.

3. Daniel Gillies referred to Elijah’s arc on the show in the same way that many others have: It is the redemption of Klaus in some way, but also the downfall of Elijah and what he once stood for.

Gillies also referred to the “treaty” as a “line in the sand,” and that Elijah is starting to understand that there is a certain amount of chaos in this world that is unavoidable. Basically, he is coming around more to Klaus’ way of thinking.
