‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and ‘Rescue Me’ photos

There are so many different people who need to be rescued on “The Vampire Diaries,” and you can better believe that this will be a focus of “Rescue Me.”

The first pair that need to be rescued in some way is Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and elena (Nina Dobrev), and the person they need to be saved from is pretty darn simple: Each other. These two are stuck in what is a pretty harmful, toxic relationship where they may love each other, but they also continually find ways to hurt each other time and time again. Unfortunately for them, it doesn’t quite seem like there is going to be any solace on the horizon, either. It’s hard to change your ways, especially if you are someone like Damon who has been around an incredibly long amount of time.

Meanwhile, you also have Stefan … who needs to literally be rescued. We realize that the Travelers are really not the most compelling group of characters we have ever seen, and also that the idea of Stefan being tormented is hardly new. Just look at the ripper situation … or what he went through at the start of the season. Still, there is something compelling about watching Paul Wesley act his way through difficult situations time and time again.

One thing to also keep in mind about this episode? That it will be the last one for a couple of weeks, and typically when you have that, there are some big events that happen. Let’s hope for the same thing here.
