NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: First look at David Cross, ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ 2
Thursday night’s “Community” episode contains what are truly some of our favorite things: There is comedy, guest stars, and Dungeons & Dragons. The first “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons” episode is one of our favorites of the entire season, in between the personal revelations and seeing Pierce Hawthorne trying to troll the entire game.
Now, we have “Advanced Advanced Dungeons & Dragons,” which we assume is a much more intense version of the game. The stakes are also raised when it comes to some of the characters. David Cross is going to guest-star here in the role of Professor Hickey’s estranged son, and a man who may be able to finally connect with his father thanks to the popular game … or so we hope. The first photo for this episode above shows that the Dean and Chang are going to be involved in the operation, and Britta will of course join them. That much was somewhat of a given.
There is one other thing that you have to wonder here, though, that is a little more abstract and beyond the basic plot of this episode: Where is the story planning to go from here? Is there life beyond this season? There are only four episodes left in the season, and there is no evidence that the show is planning to have a finale that could work as a series-ender. There are still attempts being made here for the program to try and find its footing without Donald Glover, and that has been difficult. We’ve seen some good episodes without him, but even the show acknowledged Thursday night (read the review here) that there is a gaping hole created by his absence.
