2014 Oscars: In Memoriam honors Paul Walker, Harold Ramis, Philip Seymour Hoffman
The 2014 Oscars kept the In Memoriam tradition alive tonight, and chose to honor a variety of the stars who have made a huge impact on the industry no matter what field they are a part of. There are always those who get up in arms when someone is left out, and this is therefore an impossible list for many to compile.
The following people were among the big names mentioned during the montage: James Gandolfini, Karen Black, Tom Laughlin, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Carmen Zapata, Hal Needham, Richard Shepherd, Stuart Freeborn, Gerry Hambling, Jim Kelly, Stephenie McMillan, Les Blank, Eileen Brennan, Paul Walker, Fay Kanin, Charles L. Campbell, Deanna Durbin, Frederic Back, A.C. Lyles, Elmore Leonard, Annette Funicello, Petro Vlahos, Eduardo Coutinho, Saul Zaentz, Riz Ortolani, Peter O’Toole, Ray Harryhausen, Brian Ackland-Snow, Richard Griffiths, Sid Caesar, Roger Ebert, Shirley Temple Black, Joan Fontaine, Run Run Shaw, Juanita Moore, Mickey Moore, Stefan Kudelski, Harold Ramis, Eleanor Parker, Ray Dolby, Julie Harris, Tom Sherak, Esther Williams, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Obviously, we know that there are going to be some out there who are upset about any name that was left out, and Cory Monteith is probably the most high-profile omission. However, he was also someone much more famous for our line of work in television, and had only a few major film credits. It was nice that the show managed to include Ramis on this list, given that the “Ghostbusters” director passed idea just this past week.
Following the reveal of the names, Bette Midler came on stage and performed a rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
