ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 video: Kerry Washington stars in Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Escandalo’
Let’s give it up now to the cast and crew of “Scandal” for having a pretty good sense of humor about themselves. After all, it would be pretty well impossible for something like “Escandalo” to otherwise get made. This is completely silly, self-referntial, and a play off of the fact that many shows are typically dubbed-over in other countries to suit that native language.
Basically, this Spanish-language parody of the original show, first introduced by Kerry Washington herself on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this week, features her and a variety of other characters playing slightly-different roles than the ones that they play on the ABC show. Meanwhile, Jimmy’s sidekick Guillermo stars as the show’s version of Fitz. It’s an opportunity for him to get his acting on a little bit, which is fun when you remember that this guy really was at first a parking lot security guard.
“Scandal” of course right now can handle as many different parody videos as possible, given just how successful the show really is. It is the most-watched drama series on Thursday night, and really ABC’s most-successful scripted property up with “Modern Family,” which has only fared decently as of late this season due to declining ratings. It even has supplanted “Grey’s Anatomy,” which most did not feel was really even possibly a year and a half ago. The way the show does it is by really hyping up the drama week after week, and this parody takes advantage of that, as well … just with a very different effect in the end.
