‘King of the Nerds’ season 2, episode 6 review: Did the Jack – Zack Attack dominate the Titans of Rigel?

King of the Nerds -After last week’s “King of the Nerds” shocking elimination of Katie Correll (who we were sure was going to be safe for a while), we now realize this is really anyone’s game to win. After Chris’ attempts to save Katie and get Jack to turn on Zack we saw Jack and Zack forge a fairly strong alliance (which we are calling The Jack – Zack Attack) and what’s left of the gold team actually became a team for the first time since the season started. Will someone from the purple team go home this week?

Chris is playing a very strategic game, trying to split Zack and Jack up, by riling up Zack and telling Jack that he’s really mad at him. It made Jack feel a little bad, but not bad enough to not target him. Zack on the other hand was getting pretty flustered with Chris’ mind games.

Nerd War: The game has the teams picking only two nerds from their team to compete (which works out perfectly since Jack and Zack are alone anyways) and the goal is to maneuver through a laser maze, then do math problem to help free George Takei from the cell he is trapped in. Math + Jack = good chance of gold team winning. At the Nerd Off they learn that for every laser they trip they get a penalty and to make things even worse the person going through the maze can’t see the lasers and have to be guided by their partner. We were surprised to see how well Jack and Zack worked together and it seems like they could really go the distance together. Brian and Chris on the other hand were having some bad communication troubles and Brian was still stuck in the middle of the maze while Jack was already working on the math puzzle. In the end Jack and Zack were able to unlock the cage, free George Takei and finally had a shot at dismantling the purple team.

Nerd Off: After all the mind games Chris has been playing he fears the gold team will be sending him in, but Zack and Jack are not only worried about Chris, but they are also worried about Brian. Because the purple team thinks Chris is going into the Nerd Off, they decide to send in Kayla thinking that she can beat Chris. Why does the purple team want Chris out? They know that he’s incredibly smart, very manipulative and a strong player. Kayla tries to talk Xander into voting Brian into the Nerd Off against Chris selling the idea that Brian knows way more sci-fi then she does… and it was honestly so great to see Kayla playing a strong strategic game. At the Nerd off the gold team chose to send in Chris, saying that he’s a strong player and they need him out. The purple team voted Brian into the Nerd Off and Kayla’s strategy worked making the only woman in the game still standing strong.

The Nerd Off was sci-fi trivia mixed with a first person shooter game… also Mindy “Pom Pom Kitty” Robertson was back! The way this worked was who ever gets the question right gets the opportunity to shoot ships out of the “sky” and gets points for every one they shoot down. Whoever gets the most points wins! So was Brian able to take Chris down? He did and Chris was sent home, but it was close. (As a side note: While Chris was hugging Brian he whispered to him to make sure that Zack doesn’t win).

Also the teams are officially dissolved (but are they really?). We suspect that the purple team will still work together, but Jack and Zack have also formed a strong bond and could use that to break up the purple team further. Even though we were totally bummed to see Chris go, he had made himself such a target that if he didn’t go home tonight the other nerds would likely keep targeting him until he was gone. Episode grade: A-
