‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on dynamic for Jaime Lannister
Is it okay to say that we are nervous over the future of the Jaime Lannister story on “Game of Thrones“? It has nothing to do with the talent of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau; as a matter of fact, it is the quality of his performance that has us worried on whether or not he can have the material immediately to follow it up. We would have put him in the Emmy running this past year, especially for that brilliant bathtub scene with Brienne.
What we can tell you about Jaime’s story for next year? He was not left off in as interesting a place this time around, at least in that he back in King’s Landing versus being on the road; but, him being in the same place as his entire family really for the first time in quite a long time should make things rather interesting. Nikolaj agrees, which is why he said the following on the subject in a Reveal.co.uk interview:
“I think for Jaime it will be the fact the Lannister family is together for the first time on the show. That will be very interesting to explore. It’s a very dramatic season and where before you’d have one or two episodes that peak, here there will be a lot of peaks.”
Nikolaj also opens up slightly on what it is like to play a part who so many people have very distinct opinions about, and who has so many different layers:
“Jaime is a great character to play. I like the fact he’s so conflicted and has all these secrets, it’s good writing. He seems like a whole human so there are always things you can identity with. I think most of us dislike when people jump to conclusions about who you are. Sometimes it happens when you’re an actor, as they see you in a part and presume you’re that role. [I sometimes get], ‘Hi Jaime, how’s your sister?!’ That happens for Jaime on a huge scale as he is known as the Kingslayer.”
