‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3 spoilers: First look at Alexandra Metz as Rapunzel

“Once Upon a Time” has popularized already the “fairy tale character with a twist” characters already, and there is yet another one that is coming your way soon in Rapunzel. Alexandra Metz is going to be playing the famed princess locked in a tower, but this story is not going to be entirely the one that you remember growing up.

Executive producer Adam Horowitz was first all quick to point out to TV Guide (who first posted the attached image) that when it comes to this character, they are not planning to make this into another version of the recent Disney hit “Tangled.” Meanwhile, fellow producer Edward Kitsis went as far as to compare their take on the character to a horror movie:

“We went a little darker and freakier … A little more horror story in the vein of [the 2004 movie] The Grudge.”

The Rapunzel character will debut in March, and obviously is going to share some scenes with at least one other character in Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). But what about someone else? A mysterious character in a hood is also a part of her story, but neither one of the showrunners is commenting just yet on who this person is going to be. We know that the Wicked Witch is one theory here, but this show has been known over the years for making things so much more complicated than you would first guess.

“Once Upon a Time” returns on Sunday, March 9, and at least some of the stories will have answers at that point.
